Astral Travel
What most people think of as
Astral Travel. or
Astral Projection is the experience frequently described as
‘ … and there I was, floating near the ceiling, looking down on my sleeping body!’ This is more properly called an
Out-Of-The-Body (OOB) experience.
Astral Travel, as taught by the .Golden Dawn., was a method of active meditation in which the traveller was in control of the ‘dreamlike’ event. Called ‘Travelling in the Spirit Vision’, it was initiated by concentrating on a symbol, such as a magical sigil (seal), Tarot card, Tatwa card, crystal ball, and so on. Even the I Ching (Yi King) hexagrams have been used as Astral Travel tools.
There is the famous story of Nastatia Filipovna who was getting unsatisfactory results from crystal skrying and wanted to try I Ching hexagrams. In the company of friends she meditated on the 49th hexagram, Ko, which had been formed randomly by throwing I Ching sticks. After some time, the hexagram seemed to open like a door and she found herself in snow, wearing a fur coat and running on her hands and feet. Back in the room, her companions saw her start behaving like a wolf whereupon she even attempted to bite them when they tried to bring her out of the meditation. Eventually they had to wrap her in a blanket in order to restrain her. Unknown to Nastatia or the others at the time, was that the hexagram Ko means 'skin, hide, fur, an animal pelt and moulting'. A typical commentary on Ko reads: … ‘the great man changes like a tiger’.
Astral Projection is a very powerful magic tool. Stated simply, would you prefer an Out of the Body Experience or a million dollars?
For simplicity I have included both Astral Projection and OOB books in this section.
