TRIQUETTRA (or ‘Charmed’ symbol)

This famous symbol, erroneously thought to be of Celtic origin, gained its fame largely through the TV series ‘Charmed’ where it was used instead of the Pentagram (which was thought might be too controversial). The symbol is formed from three semicircles giving its distinctive form.

It is not known what the triquettra and similar images symbolised. We do know that among the Gaelic peoples, who had no written language, the number three was sacred. Hence we have concepts such as the ‘Triple Goddess’. However, the number three seems to have been sacred among most, if not all, cultures: Brahma/Vishnu/Shiva, Father/Son/Holy Ghost, Maiden/Mother/Crone, etc., ad nauseum.

Sterling silver, 2cm x 2cm (at its widest & highest points).
