Ceremonial Magic
Also called
Ritual Magic, and
High Magic (as in ‘High Church’, the most ritualised and ceremonial aspect of the Anglican Church)
Ceremonial Magic is concerned with the conjuration of, and communion with, spirits. The spirits in this case are not dead relatives but rather the Gods and Goddesses of various pantheons, angels, archangels, daemons, planetary and Olympic spirits and elemental beings embodied by gnomes, sylphs, undines and salamanders.
Whereas in the Catholic and Anglican Mass, Christ in invoked into the wine and wafer and eaten by the congregation for the communion to take place, in magic the spirit is invoked and a conversation takes place with it instead. This is a rich and varied field of exploration begun in modern times by groups such as the Golden Dawn and O.T.O. Variations of ceremonial magic include Chaos Magic and Enochian Magic.
